Tomb of a Hero: Saad Zaghloul Mausoleum
This spectacular building is the resting place of one of Egypt’s greatest sons—Saad Zaghloul (1859‒1927), Leader of the Wafd Party and the 1919 Revolution. His death left the entire nation in mourning.
The Wafd party was in power and keen to find ways to honor him. Public funds were put aside to buy the home of Saad and his wife, Safiya, and convert it into a national museum, to be called ‘the House of the Nation’ (bayt al-umma).
