The Asyutt Barrage is a dam on the Nile River, which was completed in 1903 and designed by the famous British engineer Sir William Willcocks who also designed and built the Aswan Low Dam. The Asyut Dam was constructed between 1898 and 1903 and provided river water into Egypt’s largest irrigation canal, the Ibrahimiya Canal, during the low water summer season.
Sir William Willcocks wrote extensively about irrigation system of Egypt. The following is an short excerpt from the Introduction of his book.
